I'm back once again to report my slow progress -- this week I spent mainly trying to get back into life after being flat on my back two weeks ago and then going to California. It hasn't been a superb reading week (or two, as the case may be!), just okay. My thanks to Sheila at bookjourney, who keeps this going every week.
Here's how it went:
Read and reviewed
Room, by Emma Donoghue -- I have the UK version; the US version is out in September
The Murder Room, by Michael Capuzzo
(read earlier, reviewed later): Parrot and Olivier in America
by Peter Carey
Read and not yet reviewed -- coming someday
Trespass, by Rose Tremain
The Phantoms of Breslau, by Marek Krajewski
A Murder of Quality, by John Le Carré
A Call for the Dead, by John Le Carré
Currently reading
C by Tom McCarthy (and LOVING it, by the way)
A Small Death in the Great Glen, by A.D. Scott
Plans for this week (Larry's gone so it should be a good week for books)
The Long Song, by Andrea Levy
and whatever else I can find that captures my interest at the moment
that's it... until next week!
You've got some great book! What a pity I can't read your review of Room yet (you say it has spoilers). I would like to read this book, but won't be buying any soon (just had my spree). Is it worth it?
ReplyDeleteI'm having a giveaway at the moment (150 posts) but sorry, on for Europe! Http://leeswammes.wordpress.com
I found Room interesting because it's told from a child's perspective. It's very different, and I think it's going to be hugely popular. I may give this one away in September.
ReplyDelete@Kathy: wow - our comments crossed in the cyber world! How weird!
ReplyDeleteYou read great books.
ReplyDeleteHave a great reading week ahead! Here is my Mondays: Mailbox/Where Am I/Musings post.
Thanks, Gautami. Great, I don't know about, but I do try to choose wisely!
ReplyDeletethank you for coming by. I'll come see you in a bit!
Well, you've done better than I have lately. Your post reminds me how long it's been since I read anything by John Le Carré - I should do something about that. Hope you enjoy all your reading this week!
ReplyDeleteWell, actually Joy, I received an ARC of Le Carre's newest book and read some reviews which complained about it not being "vintage" Le Carre. Personally, I don't care, but I thought maybe reading some "vintage" works by this author was a good idea prior to posting my review. I'd quite forgotten how much I really like his work.
ReplyDeleteI've heard a lot about Room lately, so I think it's definitel one to pick up & read.
ReplyDeleteNikki-ann: thanks for coming by, and I think there will be a LOT of people picking this up!
ReplyDeleteI've wanted to read Rose Tremain's previous book, The Road Home...now I will need to add Trespass too!
ReplyDeleteI've got The Road Home too, but still unread. Oh, for extra time!!!
ReplyDeleteI am still trying to dig up a copy of The Murder Room. (pun totally intended)
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to hearing what you thought of Trespass - I've heard mixed reviews, but the synopsis intrigues me.
ReplyDeleteRoom! I am so off to see your review!
ReplyDeleteI hope you're not disappointed...I tried really hard not to give anything away so as not to wreck things. Let me just say...it's very different from what I normally read -- and a bit unsettling overall.
ReplyDeletethanks for coming by!
